This podcast has reported on the project in previous episodes including794, 801, 888 and 1221. Almost ten years ago Dave along with his wife C.J. set up a program to help Vietnam Veterans who suffered from the debilitating effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

It all started when Dave was asked to perform for PTSD sufferers at the Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. After seeing the positive response to his music by the veterans Dave and C.J decided to take action.

They decided to set up a program they named the Healing Box Project to help the veterans. Music was the choice of treatment techniques because of Dave’s background. Dave has been a musician for 51 years. He taught music in public schools for 20 years and has been a professional musician performing with various bands throughout life. C.J. joined in the project with much gusto because she had a personal experience with a family member that showed the deadly effects of PTSD.

They created a program that to date has helped 250 veterans cope with terrible PTSD symptoms. Their main treatment efforts have been conducted at the Truman VA Hospital in Columbia with 60 students. Recently they have started up another program at the DAV facility in Springfield.

Whenever a new student enters their program they are immediately presented with a brand new high quality guitar and the healing starts immediately. Dave and C.J. pay for the new guitars with donations and personal funds.

They need help.

You are invited to their fundraiser event coming up on June 2 at the Fish Company in Camdenton, MO.
